Civil Disobedience Pray-In Over Acquittals in Sean Bell Killing : MAR/7/08 - Fueled by outrage over the acquittals of NYPD officers involved with the killing of Sean Bell thousands of people staged a dramatic rally and pray-in at One Police Plaza near the base of the Brooklyn Bridge and six other locations in the city. Surrounded by a swarm of reporters and cameras dozens were arrested for civil disobedience while praying in the street.

Rally to Stop Eviction of Family Home in Dorchester : APR/16/08 - Residents and supporters rallied at 200 Norfolk Street in Dorchester to stop the eviction of the Meyers family from their home. Living in the house are 4 brothers and sisters as well as 6 children. There is also a licensed day care center in the building. Before the morning rally US Bank and Premier Asset Services backed off their planned forced eviction. The Banks have finally agreed to negotiate to try to settle the matter. The organization City Life/Vida Urbana plans to continue fighting evictions.

Boston-Area Students Rally to Demand Just CORI Policies : APR/11/08 - Students from a dozen area schools and universities demonstrated in Boston Common for Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) reform. CORI laws make it difficult for people with records to get jobs, housing, credit and student loans. The students and passers-by signed a giant 11 foot letter to the chairmen of the Massachusetts Joint Committee for the Judiciary demanding justice and an end to discriminatory practices because of CORI.

Candle Light Vigil Protesting Repression by China in Tibet : MAR/25/08 - Local Tibetan community members gathered in Harvard Square for the 11th evening in a row for a candle light vigil. The rally highlighted the ongoing occupation of their homeland plus the recent killings and human rights violations of Tibetan demonstrators by the Chinese government ahead of the 2008 olympic games in Beijing.

Die-in Shuts Down Boston Military Recruiting Station Before Protest Rally : MAR/19/08 - On the 5th anniversary of the War in Iraq five Boston-area residents laid down in front of the entrance to the US Armed Forces recruiting station at 141 Tremont Street in downtown Boston and blocked access to the building for nearly an hour. Boston police arrested five participants one for each year of the war in Iraq. Later about 150 people gathered for a rally against the war across the street on the Boston Common.

Blockade to Stop Sub-Prime Lending Home Eviction : JAN/23/08 - Neighbors & supporters rallied in front of Melonie Griffiths-Evans Dorchester home to physically block an eviction by US Bank & Ocwen Financial. Like thousands in Boston and across the country she is facing foreclosure as a result of sub-prime predatory loans. The eviction was called off because of the protest leaving her and her three children in their house, but some 1500 local families still face a similar situation. The organization City Life/Vida Urbana plans to continue fighting evictions.

SDS Action Camp in Lancaster Pennsylvania : AUG/17/07 - A four day activist action camp on a farm outside of Lancaster hosted by the local chapter of the new Students for a Democratic Society. The event was grounded in intensive skills trainings on organizing, collective liberation, nonviolent direct action, and campaign strategy. Trainers included members of the Catalyst project and Rainforest Action Network as well as Lisa Fithian and legendary feminist Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz.

Police Attack Wobblies March in North Providence : AUG/11/07 - Providence RI, Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) march on Jackies Galaxy, a local restaurant chain supplied by HWH/Dragonland in NYC, a supplier notorious for slave labor conditions and a lack of basic labor rights. A few blocks before finishing the march North Providence police brutally tackled two of the marches after they moved to the sidewalk too slowly, both were arrested and one suffered a badly broken leg in the attack. 2nd New SDS National Convention: Detroit Michigan 2007 : JUL/30/07 - Photography from the second new sds National Convention in Detroit Michigan. The event was held at Wayne State University and housing for sdsers from across the nation was generously provided by a local Unitarian Universalist Church. I traveled from Boston with a group from New England, it was a long drive but well worth it. I'm excited. moved and inspired by this new sds movement for radical participatory democracy in the making.

Boston Youth Organizing Bus Trip Back from USSF : JUL/2/07 - I got a ride back from the US social forum on a Boston youth organizations bus. The trip took 28 hours in total and included a bunch of movies and a flat tire in Washington DC. Ultimately we all made it home safe and sound.

Boston Die-in Against the BU Bio-Terror Lab : MAY/7/07 - Concerned community members staged a die-in in front of the Contemporary Art Institute where Mayor Menino and Governor Patrick were hosting a lavish party for bio-tech industry bigwigs. The protesters were outraged at plans to build a Level 4 bio-laboratory in the densely populated Roxbury/South End Area. Boston March for CORI Reform and Jobs : APR/19/07 - The Boston Workers' Alliance (BWA), in coalition with over 50 community organizations staged a March for Jobs and CORI Reform.   Over 500 people marched from Roxbury Crossing T Stop on to the Boston Commons, and then inside the State House to demand immediate reforms to discriminatory criminal background check laws.  The BWA is an organization of under- and unemployed workers united to end CORI discrimination and the crisis of joblessness.

SDS New York Occupies Military Recuriter Office : MAR/12/07 - 100 students, all members of SDS NY, occupied an Armed Forces Recruiting Center on Chambers st. for two hours on Monday, March 12. The occupation ended with 20 arrested by the NYPD. The students were jailed overnight and charged with criminal trespass. BC Students Stage Street Theater at Israeli Consulate : MAR/15/07 - Boston College students take part in street theater at the Israeli Consulate building in Boston.
